On the far left of the engine is the number "9903" which designates that this is the Mark Twain Zephyr. According to the "1944 Time Recording Book of the CB & Q Railroad", the rate of pay for the Zephyr's engineer is 7.93 (the fireman, 6.23) per mile traveled. This rate is based on the weight on the drivers (drive wheels).
